Professor Yong Zhang, Editor-in-Chief, Leads CrossViewer Delegation in Technical Consultations with Waseda University on AI-Driven Surgical Navigation Collaboration

June 26th, 2025

Professor Yong Zhang, Editor-in-Chief of the Multimedia Journal of Metaverse in MEDICINE and institutional representative of CrossViewer, recently conducted an official technical mission to Waseda University in Japan. The delegation engaged in in-depth consultations regarding collaborative R&D and application of AI-driven multimodal imaging surgical navigation technology, establishing a critical platform for advancing next-generation surgical navigation systems.

During the proceedings, Professor Zhang comprehensively articulated CrossViewer’s institutional advantages in medical technology translation, emphasizing the platform’s capacity to enhance surgical precision through real-time fusion of multi-source imaging data (CT, MRI, ultrasound) and AI-optimized procedural pathways. He proposed establishing interdisciplinary research teams leveraging Waseda University’s foundational expertise in AI algorithms and biomedical engineering.

Waseda University’s domain experts expressed substantive alignment with the collaboration framework, demonstrating the institution’s breakthrough AI image segmentation technology achieving sub-millimeter error control in surgical simulations. Experts identified spatiotemporal registration and real-time interaction of multimodal imaging data as critical technical constraints, proposing joint research initiatives to accelerate clinical translation.

Both parties reached preliminary consensus on multiple collaborative dimensions:

  • Establishment of joint research infrastructure
  • Development of academic knowledge dissemination mechanisms
  • Implementation of specialized talent exchange programs

In concluding remarks, Professor Zhang asserted this partnership would “redefine conventional boundaries of surgical navigation, delivering novel precision medicine solutions.” Waseda University leadership expressed strategic confidence in the collaboration’s potential to transform global surgical navigation paradigms and generate breakthrough contributions to human health.
